Gov. Lamont welcomes women-owned businesses in states with new abortion laws

Gov. Ned Lamont has put out a pitch to women running businesses in states with new restrictive abortion laws to relocate their operations to Connecticut.

In an open letter co-signed by Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz and addressed to “Alabama, Georgia and Missouri Women-Owned Businesses,” the governor pointed out calls for corporate boycotts of the states and was “appalled at these actions that erode the ability of women to make informed decisions about their health and bodies.”

In highlighting Connecticut’s workforce, educational environment and quality of life, Lamont also pointed to an unidentified survey that found Connecticut to be the “third best state for working mothers” and noted the recently created Governor’s Council on Women and Girls as an example of “the ways in which we prioritize the potential of ALL members of our society.”

“It is our hope you will carefully consider the short and long-term impacts this egregious, anti-women measure will have on your business and employees and take a bold step for change,” the letter concluded. “We look forward to hearing from you.”
