Former DOJ official joins Wiggin and Dana law firm as partner

David Laufman

David H. Laufman – a former U.S. Department of Justice official who oversaw investigations involving both Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server and Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election prior to the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller – has joined the law firm Wiggin and Dana as a partner.

Laufman was the former chief of the counterintelligence and export control section of the DOJ’s National Security Division. At Wiggin and Dana, he will co-chair the firm’s National Security Practice Group and will be a member of the White-Collar Defense, Investigations and Corporate Compliance Practice Group and the International Trade Compliance Group.

He will work in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. The firm’s other locations include Greenwich and Stamford.

“Companies and individuals face an increasingly daunting white-collar and regulatory enforcement environment, as well as challenges posed by congressional and inspector general investigations,” Laufman said. “The need for specialized counsel to represent clients in these types of investigations, and to provide compliance counseling to keep them out of trouble, therefore has never been greater.”

“David’s commitment, dedication and success, coupled with his extraordinarily varied background in both the public and private sectors make him a perfect fit for our firm as we continue to expand our White-Collar Defense and International Trade Compliance practice groups,” said James Glasser, chair of Wiggin and Dana’s Litigation Department.

“Given David’s recent responsibility for overseeing the Justice Department’s enforcement of U.S. export control and sanctions laws,” he continued, “as well as the Foreign Agents Registration Act, he is ideal to co-chair our National Security Practice Group where he will have the opportunity to serve our clients using his wealth of knowledge and experience.”
