(Editor’s note:  Recently, WAG Wanderer Debbi K. Kickham – who never met a skincare product or treatment that didn’t pique her interest – took herself on a beauty tour of the Big AppleAmong those she spent time with were Park Avenue dermatologist Howard Sobel. Here’s her report, just in time for the sun seasons):

What makes your practice special?

“Sobel Skin is more than a dermatology practice. It’s a relaxing, rejuvenating space where you can pause and take time to indulge in quality self-care. Every time you step through our doors, we promise you will feel the world slow down, so you can catch your breath. Our inclusive and inviting facility includes state-of-the-art equipment in an immersive spa environment. We also have an accredited operating room where surgeries from liposuction to breast implants, facelifts and tummy tucks are performed either by me or a plastic surgeon.”

What are some of the trendiest new injectables?

The hottest injectables are the latest family of hyaluronic acid fillers. Restylane Lyft, Defyne, Voluma and Radiesse are all longer-lasting versions in my arsenal of fillers. The key is knowing exactly where and how to place each one of the fillers to create a natural, younger version of oneself and not create that “cabbage patch” look. Patients are doing combinations of noninvasive treatments in order to postpone needing a facelift. They don’t want the “wind tunnel” look. They are opting to fill and lift lost volume without the scalpel. “Doing Botox earlier will prevent creating the etched lines on the forehead and around the eyes. Lasers that tighten and erase fine lines and remove sunspots and precancerous lesions can be treated with the Fraxel or CO2 laser as well as the Clear and Brilliant and PIQO. I strongly believe that it is important to stay as natural-looking as you can without resorting to surgery. We use a mix of state-of-the-art, cutting-edge, nonsurgical and surgical cosmetic procedures and techniques to produce fresh, healthy, glowing skin at our practice.”

Besides avoiding the sun and using sunscreen, what are the best things you can do this summer to have healthy skin?

“Sunscreen is paramount and should be used year-round. Most people do not apply sunscreen correctly. You need two tablespoons for the face and a shot glass full for the body. It needs to be reapplied every two hours when in the sun. It should contain either titanium or zinc oxide for full protection. Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet. Use the correct cleanser for your skin type. Moisturize while the skin is slightly damp.”

Speaking of moisturizer, we’d like to know more about your skincare line.

“In 1991, I created DDF Skincare in order to give the consumer a product that used ingredients that were efficacious and treated their various skin issues. I’m currently in the process of bringing something groundbreaking to the market this summer/early fall.”
