To the Editor:
Every single day, over 100 Americans are killed by gun violence. In fact, by the end of the month of January, we will have surpassed the number of deaths experienced by most other developed countries in an entire year.
Approximately 58 percent of American adults report that someone they know, or someone they care for, will have experienced gun violence in their lifetime. I believe that survivors of gun violence have the unique moral authority to remind elected officials and everyday Americans that our weak gun laws have serious consequences, and to urge them to take action to reduce gun violence.
As a volunteer with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, I am spending the first week of February honoring gun violence survivors and listening as they share their stories and encourage others to take action to end gun violence in this country.
National Gun Violence Survivor Week is February 1-8, 2020. On Saturday, Feb. 1, Moms Demand Action Westchester will be hosting an event at 2 p.m. at the Yonkers Riverfront Library to honor and amplify the voices of survivors of gun violence in Westchester and across the country. All are welcome to attend and learn how to take action to change this devastating epidemic.
Thank you so much,
