PepsiCo’s Mountain Dew brand will roll out a new soft drink called Sweet Lightning that will be available exclusively at KFC restaurants across the nation beginning on July 1.
Promoted as “an out-of-this-sky refreshment lit up with a punch of peach and a touch of honey flavors,” this will be the first exclusive beverage to be offered at KFC locations and the second time that Mountain Dew has created a restaurant-exclusive drink – the brand debuted Baja Blast at KFC’s sister restaurant, Taco Bell, in 2004.
Mountain Dew and KFC collaborated on the drink in order to create a taste that complemented KFC’s Original Recipe fried chicken. To promote Sweet Lightning, an advertising campaign featuring a swaggering fictional spokesman named Sweet who will appear in commercials with KFC’s iconic Colonel Sanders.
